Welcome to Episode 5, focusing on creating user-centered content. Simply put, this means writing from your visitor’s perspective. It is not always easy to do; hence the need to post this podcast!
This is a refresh of ideas covered in my article “Write Content For Your Users, Not Yourself“.
Topics covered are:
- Using plain language and instead of church jargon
- Creating content that welcomes non-believers
- Avoid secondary topics that may drive away users
- Encouragement to use more relevant photographs
Action Item: Always consider your visitors point of view. The easiest way of course is to ask them. Without any pressure, ask if you can get feedback from one of your un-churched friends. Or if you have any recent visitors or new members; ask them what drew them in. If it was an aspect not integrated with your website; well that should help you figure out a new future project for your web team!
