In this episode I will briefly explain what a content strategy document is, and how it can help you craft a more effective website for your church. The definition seems fairly self-explanatory based on the name, a document that outlines the strategy you will take for your website’s content. However, I feel it is more than that. You should also be tracking who will be responsible for creating and maintaining said content, as well as other meta data that helps ensure your content is relevant and up to date. Steps I will recommend are:
- Creating an Inventory
- Connecting to Strategy
- Assigning Responsibility
Action Item: Develop a good template that captures the information I outlined here. By taking a week or two to execute this task, you will hopefully accomplish three things: eliminate clutter content that does not add value to your pages; strengthen your strategic approach to utilizing your church website, and ensure that pages do not slip through the cracks with stale or incorrect content. Be sure to visit the show notes for plenty of supporting links and information on the techniques discussed here.
